On-site Classes
Over the course of the past thirty years, our understanding of the language acquisition process has changed dramatically. Long gone are vocabulary lists and grammar rules to memorize! In fact, we do not refer to ourselves as language teachers anymore, but rather as facilitators of second language acquisition.
As a facilitator of second language acquisition, I embrace a communicative approach, in which the second language represents the vehicle of instruction, not the target. Are you old enough to remember learning Las albóndigas están en la mesa (The meatballs are on the table) from Lesson 1 of the ALM Method? No doubt it has never come in handy, if you do! But you might have needed to say, “It is a holiday. We are closed,” as I teach in my special-design English course for entry-level Spanish-speaking employees.
My classes are all designed as Language-for-Specific-Purposes (LSP) courses and tailored to the needs of the client. Groups can be small or large at any level of language fluency. For example:
- English for Public Transportation Drivers, basic conversation; instruction in English only (immersion) or in Spanish
- English for Tradesmen, reading & writing, pre-intermediate level; instruction in English only (immersion) or in Spanish
- Spanish for Food Service Supervisors, intermediate level; instruction in English or in Spanish only (immersion)
